Programme of Events

Public Talks

The Society runs a programme of public talks and social events throughout the year.  Talks are held at the Guild House unless otherwise stated. At evening talks coffee is served from 7 p.m., followed by a short time for notices at 7.30 p.m. before the main talk, which ends about 9.30.   In 2009 there were three talks, but in 2010 we added an afternoon meeting, starting at 2.30 p.m. and followed by tea.  This proved very popular, particularly in the winter, and has been continued since.

There are usually two talks on Knowle itself, with in-house speakers; the other two talks are on the suurounding area with outside speakers.  Talks are advertised in the Society's newsletter, Knowle Parish Magazine and on posters round the village.  We also inform other societies with which we have contact, and hope that notice of our meetings will be included in the literature of Warwickshire Local History Society.   Talks are open to the public.  Entrance is free to everyone, but non-members are asked for a donation.  Donations for coffee are also appreciated.

Social Events

There are two social events a year, open to members and their guests only.  As numbers for a summer outing dwindled, these comprise a strawberry tea in the summer and an autumn luncheon at the Wilson Arms in November.

Exhibitions

The Society mounts its main exhibition in the summer, on a particular theme of village life.  In addition, we present an exhibition for Heritage Open Days in September and another earlier in the year.

Special Events

The Society usually takes a stall at a number of fetes in and around Knowle, starting with Knowle Festival in the Park, at which the summer exhibition has its first public viewing, followed by another at Barston Fete on August Bank Holiday Monday.   In addition, we are often asked to give talks to other organisations.  We are particularly pleased to be asked to take part in Knowle C of E Primary School Local History Project, when long-standing Knowle residents answer questions from the children in Year 6, who are always impeccably behaved. The occasion enjoyed by children and adults alike.
